We’ve invested significantly in environmentally-friendly equipment, with our heatset web offset print process resulting in a 99% clean air rating. All our paper, which is sourced exclusively from sustainably managed forests, is recyclable, and we use aluminium printing plates which are also fully recycled.
Every year there’s more and more debate about the effect paper has on the environment. There are misconceptions that paper is the driving force behind global deforestation, and that the volume of waste produced by paper is a cause for major concern. However, the facts tell us otherwise.
Paper, primarily made from wood pulp, is a natural and fully renewable resource. The vast majority of timber used in paper manufacture is grown specifically for that purpose, in sustainably managed and legally harvested forests. These forests are created by people whose livelihoods revolve around paper; if they simply cut down all the trees in the world they’d quickly find themselves out of a job, which is why they systematically replace the trees they harvest.
It’s a proven fact that younger trees absorb more carbon dioxide than older trees. So by regularly cutting mature trees down and replacing them with new ones, paper manufacturers actually help us reduce our carbon footprint.
Mass deforestation around the globe is being driven not by the paper industry, but by developing nations as they create room to accommodate their growing populations. The single biggest cause of tropical deforestation is conversion to crop land and pasture.
Paper can usually be recycled up to six times before it becomes unsuitable for use as actual paper. It’s also a natural product which is biodegradable.
